Disposable Vape Pens: It’s All About That Puff Count

Most vapers who seek out a disposable vape pen are looking for the most satisfying flavor profile and the best battery power, but there’s another factor that’s extremely important, which is the puff count.  All disposables on the market should clearly indicate their puff count, as it plays a big role in whether or not a specific model is actually worth buying.  So, what is the puff count, and how should a vaper factor it into their time choosing the perfect disposable vape pen?

What is the Puff Count?

Keep in mind the puff count once again is an approximation.  In other words, there is a good chance that you won’t end up getting the exact number of puffs advertised.  The reason why it’s an estimate and not an exact number is because how many puffs you actually get out of a disposable depends on how deeply you inhale each puff.  Deeper puffs, or long puffs, will inevitably shorten the puff count.  So, if you’re the type of vaper who takes lots of quick, shallow puffs, this will extend the puff count.

What Determines the Puff Count?

The puff count is based on the amount of e-liquid that’s inside the cartridge.  Larger cartridges can hold more e-liquid, which means that they ultimately provide more puffs per piece to the user.

The puff count also indirectly determines the capacity of the battery, which ultimately determines the battery’s size as well, which again affects the overall size of the device.  The battery of a disposable vape pen is designed to last until the e-liquid in the cartridge runs out, because disposables by nature are maintenance-free vaping systems which is a huge part of their appeal.  Because the battery is never recharged by the user, it must be able to provide power to the device through to the very last puff of e-juice.

A higher puff count also has a tendency to imply that you’ll enjoy more vapor per puff.  Why?  Because a higher battery capacity ensures the following:

• Enough power to last until the e-liquid has run out.
• A more powerful battery.
• Once the battery reaches full power, it will trigger more vapor production per puff by offering an influx of fuel to the coil ( a coil uses the battery’s power to vaporize the liquid in the cart).

How to Choose the Right Puff Count for Your Vaping Needs

It is always important to pay attention to the puff count advertised on the packaging to have an idea of how long it will take to go through a particular disposable vape pen.  The puff count, as we mentioned, influences the price of the device.  Hence, the puff count also gives you an idea as to whether or not a particular disposable is worth buying.  A disposable that has a low puff count – somewhere around 300 puffs – should not cost the same amount as one that offers 800 puffs.

So, how do you determine the puff count that’s right for you? 

Well first, you want to decide how frequently you’re willing to buy new disposables, and how much you’re willing to spend on disposable vapes as well.  Obviously, the lower the puff count, the more frequently you’ll be replacing them.  But another factor is that disposables with higher puff counts tend to cost less per milliliter of e-juice than disposables with low puff counts.  So, by going with disposables that have higher puff counts, you’ll be replacing them less frequently, and likely spending less overall on your vaping hobby.

As stated earlier, 300 puffs are, give or take, the same number of puffs as what you’ll find in a pack of cigarettes.  So, think about how long it used to take you to get through a pack of cigs. 

• If it was one day, then you may find yourself replacing your disposable on a daily basis.
• If it took you a week to get through a pack, then you’ll likely be replacing your disposables weekly.

Disposables can last for a long time without their batteries losing functionality or their e-liquid going “bad”.  You can keep a disposable for several months and still find that it works perfectly well.  So, choosing disposables with higher puff counts and taking a while to get through them does not mean that you’ll end up with devices that are no longer in functional order because they’ve been sitting around in your possession for too long.

The Puff Count Matters

At the end of the day, the puff count has a big role in the value of a disposable device.  Still, the ideal puff count to go with is completely your choice.  While it’s true that disposables that have higher puff counts offer more overall value, they also tend to result in larger devices that produce more vapor, which may or may not be what you’re looking for.
